Choose your container with intention. Glass is ideal as it won't leach chemicals and allows moonlight to pass through clearly. Some witches use crystal or silver vessels to amplify the energy. The container itself becomes part of the spell.
Fill it with pure water. Spring water or purified water is best. If using tap water, let it sit uncovered for an hour to release chlorine and added chemicals. As you pour, speak your intention: 'I bless this water to receive the moon's light.'
Check the moon phase and plan accordingly:
- Full Moon water is for completion, fulfillment, maximum power
- New Moon water is for new beginnings, fresh starts, setting intentions
- Waxing Moon water is for growth, increase, drawing things toward you
- Waning Moon water is for release, banishment, letting go
Place your vessel where moonlight will directly touch it. A windowsill facing the moon is perfect, but outside is more powerful if safe and private. Place your hands over the water and close your eyes.
Visualize silver lunar light streaming down from the moon, through your crown chakra, down your arms, through your palms, and into the water. The water begins to glow with accumulated moonlight. See it shimmer and swirl with lunar energy.
Speak your intention clearly: 'Luna, grandmother moon, wise celestial mother, bless this water with your power. Charge it with your ancient magic, your tidal pull, your luminous grace. May it carry your energy in every drop. Thank you, blessed moon.' You may add more specific intentions based on your needs.
Leave the water out for at least three hours, ideally overnight. The longer it sits in moonlight, the more charged it becomes. Many witches leave it from moonrise to moonset, or from dusk to dawn.
Collect your moon water before direct sunlight hits it (unless you specifically want sun-moon water, which is powerful but serves different purposes).
Store in a glass jar or bottle, ideally dark glass to preserve the energy. Label it with the date and moon phase. Moon water will keep for about a month in the refrigerator, longer if you add a small amount of alcohol (vodka works well) as a preservative.
Moon water made during powerful lunar events (eclipses, super moons, blood moons, blue moons) holds exceptional power. Many witches save these special batches for their most important spell work.
Note: Never drink moon water that has sat outside where animals, insects, or debris could contaminate it. For consumption, make moon water indoors on a windowsill.
